A Coursera peer-reviewed assignment may stay pending after you submit because another learner has not yet reviewed it. Check that the assignment shows a real submission, complete any reviews assigned to you, and follow the course's own timeline before contacting support. A pending grade does not necessarily mean that your work was lost or rejected.
This guide separates three problems that look similar on the course dashboard: an unsubmitted draft, a submission waiting for reviewers, and an assessment blocked by an error. Each calls for a different response.
Why peer grading takes time
A multiple-choice quiz can be graded automatically, but peer assessment depends on people reading work and applying a rubric. Participation changes from course to course, so a single promised turnaround time would be misleading. Coursera's official contact page lists peer-graded assignment problems among its learner support topics.
A Coursera-hosted peer-feedback document describes feedback taking several days, sometimes seven to ten. This is historical guidance, not a guarantee for your present course. Follow the live assignment instructions, especially in degree, private, or institution-managed programs.
The important question is whether the course has received your work and is now waiting for human assessment. If so, repeated refreshes or a different browser will not create a reviewer.
Verify that your submission is complete
Open the actual assignment page instead of relying only on the progress bar. Look for a submission timestamp, confirmation, preview of the uploaded file or text, and any message about additional peer-review obligations. A draft saved locally or inside the editor is not necessarily a submitted attempt.
- Open the graded assignment in the course.
- Confirm the status says submitted rather than draft.
- Inspect your uploaded work or written response.
- Read the rubric and any minimum-length requirements.
- Check whether you must review other learners' submissions.
- Record the date, status message, and assignment title.
Keep your original answer in a private folder when course rules allow. Do not publish other students' work, share answer keys, or use somebody else's submission to obtain a grade. If an integrity notice appears, read it carefully and revise with original work rather than padding the response with meaningless text.
For technical courses, Coursera programming assignment files explains how starter notebooks and datasets differ from your submitted attempt. Having a notebook on your computer does not prove that the grading system received it.
Choose the right next action
| Status or symptom | Appropriate action | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Saved draft only | Finish the submission process | Assuming a draft will be graded |
| Submitted, waiting for peers | Follow the stated review window | Uploading duplicate work repeatedly |
| Required peer reviews unfinished | Complete them thoughtfully | Copying feedback without reading |
| Similarity or minimum-length warning | Address the specific requirement | Using another learner's answer |
| Unexplained delay after the stated window | Contact Coursera support | Sharing private login details |
If your assignment requires you to review classmates' work, use the rubric consistently and give actionable comments. Do not promise to trade favorable grades. The point of peer review is to help learners improve, not to exchange scores.
Before contacting support, gather the course title, assignment name, submission date, and exact status message. Explain what you already checked and whether other assignments grade normally. This gives support a reproducible issue instead of a vague report that the course is broken.
Peer review versus course deadlines
A personal deadline reset is a scheduling feature, not a command to release a grade. Our guide to resetting Coursera deadlines explains why you should back up notebooks before changing schedules or course versions. Do not reset deadlines solely because you are waiting for another person's review.
Likewise, a subscription renewal or institutional access deadline is separate from peer assessment. Submitting before a billing date does not guarantee instant certification. Check the enrollment terms and the assignment's stated rules. If your course access is ending, contact the relevant program or learner support team rather than trying to circumvent the access system.
Use waiting time for useful revision
While a review is pending, revisit your own notes, test the concepts against the rubric, and practice explaining the main idea without copying the lecture. A small revision plan can be more useful than repeatedly refreshing the status page. Choose one weak point in your assignment, find the lesson that addresses it, and write a brief explanation in your own words.
Coursera Downloader is a Chrome extension for supported videos you are already authorized to view and permitted to save. It cannot preserve grades, submit assignments, or override access limits. If you have permission for a personal video copy, start with its Chrome Web Store installation and see how to download Coursera videos. Prefer built-in options when suitable and never bypass DRM, paywalls, or copyright restrictions.
A downloaded lesson is not a substitute for the current assignment page. Rubrics, submission instructions, and teacher notices can change after the recording was made. Keep the live course as the authority for anything that affects grading.
The short version
Verify the submission, finish required peer reviews, and wait according to the course's actual instructions. If the grade remains pending beyond the stated window, use Coursera's official support channel with specific details. Keep video revision separate from the peer grading process.
